A Roman proverb by Decimus Lunius Juvenalis says “Mens sana in corpore sano” which means “In a healthy body, there is a strong soul”. As we know, health is not only seen from fitness and physical endurance, but also the stability of the soul or mentality in humans. This topic is a hot topic in Indonesia, especially among teenagers. Based on data from the Indonesia-National Adolescent Mental Health Survey (I-NAMHS) in 2022, it shows that 1 in 3 teenagers (34.9%) or equivalent to 15.5 million Indonesian teenagers have mental health problems in the past year. Therefore, it is important for us to pay attention to the surrounding environment, hone our sensitivity in seeing the development of adolescent mental health.
The government, in this case the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), carries out its functions by collaborating with UNICEF in various activities related to mental health, with the hope of being able to overcome and reduce the number of adolescent mental health problems. This responsibility is not only for the government, the community also has an equally important role in dealing with this increasingly widespread case. One way is to pay more attention to teenagers through sharing sessions, brainstorming, and many other discussion methods so that teenagers can communicate the problems they are facing. The existence of this Mental Health Day commemoration moment is a strategic step to realize a prosperous society free from mental disorders.
